What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health. Assessment and treatment can include orthopedic and neurological testing, soft tissue manipulation (Swedish massage is the most commonly used technique), hydrotherapy, remedial exercise programs and client education programs.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

How can Massage Therapy help me?

Fertility

Regularly receiving fertility massage provides many benefits to the reproductive system. It helps to reposition a tilted uterus, promotes hormonal balance, helps to break up scar tissue, brings fresh blood to the uterus, reduces stress and stress hormones, increases circulation to the uterus and cervix, and more!

Pregnancy

Massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle and joint pain such as carpal tunnel syndrome and, reduce swelling and edema, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.

Paediatrics

The WOMB’s RMTs provide infant massage and instruction for care givers. Infant Massage helps relieve discomfort from gas, colic, and constipation, aids in digestion, enhances the development of the nervous system, reduces stress hormones, improves immune function and more!

Postpartum

Postpartum massage can be as important and beneficial as massage during pregnancy. Postpartum bodywork is an effective and holistic approach for the many adjustments to motherhood.
